The crawl space under this home was slightly covered by a thin barrier, but the homeowners wanted to encapsulate it further. We recommend a full encapsulation with a more durable and sealed vapor barrier. The homeowners did not want to replace their failing vapor barrier just yet but did want to insulate and dehumidify the crawl space.
So, we installed our thermal insulation along the walls to keep the interior temperature more consistent, and then we installed a dehumidifier to keep the air quality high.
The crawl space under this home was musty and damp. Water vapor was a major factor affecting the health of this home and crawl space.
We inspected the home and found multiple ways we could help. By encapsulating this crawl space entirely, it keeps the area free of water vapor. Blocking off the exposed the ground and outside air with CleanSpace and SilverGlo insulated the crawl space air keeps the moisture out. Then, the SaniDry dehumidifier manages the air quality and moisture level inside. We also installed a waterproofing drainage system around the perimeter to capture intruding water.
This encapsulation sets the home up to be much safer and healthier by keeping water and moisture outside of the home.
The garage-basement of this home in Blowing Rock had been previously waterproofed but needed a better drainage system. The location and installation of a drain is critically important to a waterproofing system. When water is pumped out of a drainpipe near the base of the home it can make its way back into the basement, garage, or crawl space causing even more damage and possibly overloading the system. This basement was not finished without a proper drainage system.
We installed our waterproofing system and plumbed this French drain out. We connected it to the sump through the wall and ran the pipe through a drench. We excavated and installed the pipe with gravel around it, and then filled the trench back in without disturbing much soil around the base of the home. This allows the water to flow downhill away from the home and not shift the foundation.
After completion the homeowners were very happy to have a fully functional waterproofing system. One that not just carries away the water but is intentionally designed to work with the home to protect it from other outside factors.
