A homeowner in Marion, NC reached out to Carolina Basement Systems with concerns regarding his crawl space. There were standing pools of water throughout the area and the excess amounts of water had created a very humid and musty-smelling environment. These types of conditions can lead to more serious issues such as mold, mildew, foundation failure, and more. These are issues that no homeowner wants to deal with, but we solve problems like this every day! Good thing this homeowner contacted the local waterproofing experts.

Jim, one of our knowledgeable inspectors, went out to perform a thorough investigation of the area. Jim then sat down with the homeowner to educate him on what was happening in his crawl space, why this occurs, and what solutions are available within his desired budget. After a plan of action was agreed upon, Juan Carlos and his crew got to work. After cleaning up debris, sealing all vents, and laying out the drainage matting, our crew encapsulated the crawl space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier. Made from a 20mil thick 7-layer polyethylene composition, our CleanSpace is the strongest vapor barrier on the market. Once installed, it seals, covers and protects the space from any moisture, humidity, or winter drafts. Our top-rated  SuperSump with cast iron pump and built-in alarm system was installed to prevent flooding. Gina of Marion, NC contacted Carolina Basement Systems after noticing a problem with the foundation of her house. Water was seeping inside of her home via cracks along the walls. Cracks within the walls are typically a sign of severe foundation shifting or settling. This is a clear sign of the wall breaking down and if left untreated can be pretty detrimental! Good thing Gina called the local professionals!

Our team of experts went right to work on permanently stabilizing this home's foundation and protecting the structure from future water damage. SmartJack supports and steel supplemental beams were installed to stop any settling and raise the floor back up to its proper level. Next they buried downspouts and installed a french drain to direct water far away from the home's foundation. This homeowner no longer has to worry about new wall cracks, sagging floors, or severe water build up in the crawlspace. 

After encapsulating this crawl space for the homeowner, we were called back out to stabilize the sinking floor. The crawl space moisture and water issues were handled, but the old floor was sloping down and risking further damage to the home.

So, we installed our patented SmartJack solution under a wooden beam. Doing this solidifies the floor above and provides a more durable backing to the home. A floor collapse can be very catastrophic to a home and a homeowner’s life, so finding a solution in SmartJacks will prevent that from happening. This system can also be adjusted over time to keep the proper tension on the floor and stop potential sinking.

Once we finished in the crawl space, the homeowners were very happy with the added-on work. We had previously solved moisture and humidity issues in their crawl space, and we were thrilled to be able to keep proving protections to their home.

This basement had water leakage coming through the block walls and was getting inside. This water made the wall cracking worse, but it also made storage difficult and it raised the humidity. To get rid of this inconvenience, the homeowners had us out to inspect the basement.

We found that only one wall was directly exposed to water from the outside and needed to be taken care of. So, we proposed and installed our WaterGuard drain, TripleSafe sump pump, and CleanSpace vapor barrier system. These products work together to collect intruding water coming through the wall and floor, send it safely away from the home, and keep water vapor from getting into the air and raising the humidity.

After the installation, the homeowners were happy with the work. This wall had caused a lot of trouble during heavy rains when runoff would soak into the wall and seep inside. Now, this wall causes no issues and the water is properly disposed of through a French drain.

The basement in this home had a lot of water leakage coming through the back wall. This was the only wall that seemed to be having issues to the homeowners. So, we inspected and waterproofed just the one back wall. This is usually an unadvised option. Our system works best when it can protect all the potentially leaky walls. This is because, when you waterproof one wall it strengthens it against the incoming water and so the water finds another, easier, way in.

Even though most of the time only waterproofing one wall is only delaying the water seepage, the homeowners felt comfortable with going ahead with this project knowing that is the case. A lot of times this decision is made because of financial limitations, as the remainder of the system can be installed later, or because the leakage is so bad that just a bare minimum is worth it.

Either way, the installation of this system was flawless, and the homeowners were happy. We anticipate at some point down the road there will be more trouble with leakage, but the home is very well protected as it stands.
